The Huchuy Qosqo tour is easily the shortest hike in Peru and best suited for those with limited time, but who would still like to do some hiking before exploring Machupicchu. Huchuy Qosqo is an Inca archaeological site located north of the city of Cusco, its name is Quechua for “Little Cusco”.

Itinerary

In the morning pick up from the hotel and car to Tambomachay (3,800 masl). The walk will begin at this point, and will continue through the landscapes of the Puna and the Sicllaccasa pass at 4020m / 13186ft. On the other side, we hike along a path that leads to the Ccauca ravine.

We continue to the Queullococha pass at 4185m / 13727ft, where we can enjoy the views of the lake with the same name. Around the area spectacular views of some snow-capped peaks. Continuing the path, we pass by Lake Queullococha, where we can see huallatas, ducks and small fish, then climb towards the next pass at 4220m / 13842ft. From this point, we observe the Chinchero planes and the Piuray and Qoricocha lagoons. Next, ascend to the fourth pass to Rumicruz at 4230m/13874ft and enjoy a panoramic view of the Qoricocha and the snow-covered Vilcanota range. Here you can rest and have lunch.

Finally, we descend towards the Pucamarca community at 4010m / 13153ft, where we arrive in the afternoon. . Dinner and overnight.

We will leave our camp and walk downhill towards the León Punku ravine, where we find remains of an Inca bridge and track. This canyon features geological formations surrounded by majestic rocks and boulders that direct the river to Huchuy Qosqo at 3600m/11808ft, where we arrive mid-morning. Huchuy Qosqo is an Inca archaeological complex with imposing architecture that includes a large open ceremonial center, from which we enjoy a panoramic view of the Sacred Valley, the Vilcanota River and the snow-capped peaks of the mountain range of the same name. While at the resort, we will receive a guided tour until lunchtime, after which we make our way to Lamay at 3000m/9840ft. Lamay is a town dedicated to agriculture and livestock. In the afternoon, take the transportation units back to Cusco. Estimated arrival time at night. * Camps are subject to change according to our guide’s criteria.
